Commander

Holley-Riddle Post 21 of The Colony, TX, emerged in the summer of 2006, formalizing its establishment with a charter in 2007, comprising an initial membership of forty-eight veterans.

The significance of Holley-Riddle lies in its homage to two local heroes, Matthew Holley and Jimmy Riddle, who made the ultimate sacrifice for their nation. Both were residents of The Colony, and their names adorn our post in remembrance of their bravery and dedication.

Matthew Holley, a former resident of The Colony from 1992 to 1999, attended Camey Elementary and Griffin Middle School. Following in his parents' footsteps, both Army Veterans, he earned his jump wings from the 101st Airborne Division, just like his father. Tragically, on November 15, 2005, Matthew lost his life in Taji, Iraq, succumbing to injuries sustained from an improvised explosive device during combat operations.

Jimmy Riddle, a former Marine and police officer, resided in The Colony with his wife, Alice. Employed by Special Operations Consulting Security Management Group, Jimmy's life was cut short on March 6, 2005, while escorting a convoy of contractors in Al Ashraf. An explosive device destroyed their vehicle, claiming his life at the age of 53.

Through Holley-Riddle Post 21, we strive to honor the legacies of Matthew and Jimmy, aiming to uphold the values and standards they exemplified in their service and sacrifice.

Post 21 leads effort to have The Colony recognized as a
Purple Heart City

American Legion Holley-Riddle Post 21 was instrumental in fulfilling the goal of having the city of The Colony, Texas. officially proclaimed as a Purple Heart City on Nov. 12, 2022.

On the main stage at the annual American Heroes Festival, surrounded by nearly 3,000 appreciative local residents, Mayor Richard Boyer and Department of Texas Commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart Tracey L. Brown Greene presented proclamations stating that “the city of The Colony recognizes and appreciates the sacrifices of all Purple Heart recipients in defending our freedom and acknowledges those men and women for their courage by showing our support and honor.”

Members of The Colony's city council assembled with the mayor to witness the signing. All veterans in the audience were invited to come up to the stage to view this significant honor.

When a city is named a Purple Heart City, its leaders and the community accept a greater commitment to support and respect Purple Heart recipients and all veterans who served our country. Post 21 is grateful for the patronage given to veterans by The Colony, and we are also challenged to continue to be the frontrunners in building bridges between our veterans and our esteemed community.
