HONOR GUARD

Captain: Mary Garcia

In 2000, Congress legislated that, upon request of the next of kin, all eligible veterans must receive military funeral honors when they pass on.  The legislation also encourages Veterans Service Organizations, including the American Legion, to augment the active duty funeral detail as an authorized provider with honor guard, bugler, and/or rifle team.  Post 21 is a proud representative of this most hallowed event. The Legion’s dignified participation reflects the professionalism of our own service to the nation, and leaves a lasting impression of pride and support for the veterans family, friends and a grateful nation.  Our veterans, no matter their age, no matter their branch of service, and no matter their length of service are due a dignified, honorable, and worthy memorial at the time of their passing. It is the purpose of our Post Honor Guard to provide that service. Membership in the American Legion is not required to receive funeral honors.

Our Honor Guard supports funerals and memorial services at DFW National Cemetery, churches and public or private facilities. The type of military honors we may provide include flag folding and presentation to next of kin, playing of Taps, service flag honors, and rifle volley when requested.

Our services are free, however, we will accept donations which help us carry out our important mission to provide final honors to those who served our country.
